The Aizawl Airport is also known as the Lengpui Airport and serves the city of Aizawl in the Indian state of Mizoram. It is located at 32 km away from the capital of Mizoram. This domestic airport is one of the first airports in India to have been built by the state government. It is astonishing to note that the airport was built in just 2 years and 2 months – the construction was started in December 1995 and was completed in February 1998. It is situated at an elevation of 405 meters (1328 ft.) from the sea level. The airport’s runway is 2500 meters long. The Aizawl Airport boasts of being one of the 3 airports in the country that has a table top runway. What makes it unique is that there are streams running underneath the airport’s runway. The closest airport is the Silchar Airport, located at a distance of 131 km from the Lengpui Airport.
