Bagdogra airport, previously an Air Force base station, now caters to both domestic and international flights. It was earlier known as the Civil Aerodrome Bagdogra. Located at around 9 kilometers from the Siliguri Township, this airport is the nearest one for passengers from North Bengal and Sikkim. There was a rise of 40 % in passenger traffic in 2016-17, totaling it to 15,24,516 passengers per year. This made the Bagdogra airport the 27th busiest airport in India. The airport also provides helicopter services to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim.
