Bareilly Airport is a planned civil enclave at the Trishul Air Base of the Indian Air Force at Izzatnagar, 6 km north of Bareilly, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The air base is currently not open to civilians. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will construct the civil enclave adjacent to the air base by 2017.
The district administration of Bareilly received Rs.11 crore from the government for the Civil Enclave project. Ten hectare land has been acquired from farmers for this purpose.
Bareilly is located along the Ramganga in the geographical region of Rohilkhand. The city is also known as Nath nagari (Land of Lord Shiva), Zari nagari and historically as Sanjashya (where the Buddha descended from Tushita to earth). It is a centre for furniture production, woodwork and sugar production. The city was founded in 1537 by Basdeo, a Katehriya Rajput and the foundation of the modern city was laid by Mukrand Rai in 1657. In 1658, Bareilly became the headquarters of the province of Budaun.
