Belgaum Airport, also known as Sambre Airport, is located in Sambra, 10 kilometers east of Belgaum. This airport is the oldest airport in North Karnataka, built in 1942 by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and was used by RAF as a training site in World War II. Belgaum Airport is spread across 440 acres and is currently undergoing expansion. The Sambre Air Force Station stands adjacent to the airport and serves as a home of Indian Air Force. The Sambre Air Force Station offers basic manual training to the new recruits of Air Force. The airport is equipped with Navigational Aid (DVOR), fire-fighting crew, and night landing facilities.
