The Kanpur Airport, also known as Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Airport, was initially designated for the Indian Air Force. Regular flights started operating to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Pune, and Chennai in the year 1970. Flights have been operating from the Civil Air Terminal of the airport after it was re-opened in December 2004.
