Kolkata Airport, officially known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, is located in Dum Dum, 17 km from the heart of the city in West Bengal. This airport holds historical significance as air services in Kolkata commenced in January 1939 with Air Services of India, a private airline operating from Juhu Aerodrome. The inaugural service was graced by the presence of the Maharaja of Kolkata, Sri. Rajaram Maharaj. The current airport facility began serving Kolkata in 1987 and is currently managed by the Airports Authority of India.
