Shimla Airport is located at Jubbarhatti, 22 km from the city of Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Located in a mountainous area, this small domestic airport was constructed by cutting the crest of a small hill to build the runway. It is one of the three ‘table-top’ airports in the country, with the runway being surrounded by deep gorges. It is owned and administered by the Airports Authority of India.
Shimla is a beautiful hill station with numerous places to enthrall the visitors. The summer capital of British India, Shimla still has the narrow-gauge Shimla-Kalka Railway, built in 1903. You can take a ride on this UNESCO recognized heritage railway. When here, visit The Ridge, Kufri, Jhaku Temple, Kamna Devi Tempe, Tara Devi Temple, and Dharangati Sanctuary. Also, pay a visit to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study and Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex. For shopping, visit Mall Road at the city center and buy local handicrafts, shawls, woolens, and jewelry from here.
